One of the main things I have been taught by both my mentor and through my research is that you need to make your potential buyer (or suspect) desperate to have your product. They cannot live another day without it. They will feel like they are missing out if they don’t buy it, so are compelled to at least sign up for your free newsletter if they can’t quite afford your product just yet (I will talk about newsletter subscriptions in a later post - these are extremely important!).

Ok, so how do we get started on our sales letter? I’ll break it down into 5 steps:

#1 - Show the reader how you empathise with them more than your competition does. This is where you will tell your story with as much emotion as you can muster. Tell them about your situation and how hard it was and how it made you feel. Really get them thinking about their own situation and how desperate it is.

If you’ve never been in the situation you’re talking about, then find someone who has, and talk about their story.

#2 - Check out your competition and tell your readers why you’re better than them. Tell your readers why your competition sucks (ok, not in those words, but you know what I mean)! What is it you’re offering that your competition is not?

#3 - Why is your product more valuable? What have you done to make it more valuable? Have you done more research? Have you formatted it in a different way?

#4 - Tell them how your product is current and up to date. Is it newly researched? Does it relate to new laws or standards?

#5 - Tell your reader how your product can give them results NOW!
