Are you an expert in your niche?

Having “expert status” on a chosen niche gives you credibility and can present many opportunities that weren’t there before you became an expert!

I have been approached by several companies and business coaches to offer my expertise in the field of internet marketing and building websites and at first I was really surprised by this attention.

I often wondered why or how they could consider me an expert??

When I really thought about it, I realised that I know a LOT more on the subject than almost everyone I know (other than my mentors of course!)! Wow! So compared to them, I really am an expert! Internet marketing isn’t all that difficult, and neither is building a website, but before I learned how to do it, I turned to experts to find out how!

Being an “expert” on a subject is definitely a great way to get noticed, and to do that you first must have a fair bit of knowledge on that subject (obviously!).

Once you have the knowledge, then how do you actually get recognised as an expert?

Below is a list of some of the things I have done to get to where I am:

1. I’ve done a LOT of research - I have completed internet marketing courses run by the best in the business, I observe and note what others are doing. I try out different things and see what works and what doesn’t.
2. I write articles on the subject. I give tips and strategies in my articles, based on what I have learned from those I consider to be “real experts”.
3. I am a member of several groups and forums related to my niche and I post comments regularly, usually helping others with their problems or posting questions to help me improve my own skills and knowledge.
4. I have specific qualifications that give me even more credibility in one of my chosen niches - this has presented a lot of opportunities for me. For example, if you started a website on fitness or weight loss, wouldn’t it look extra good if you were a qualified personal trainer or dietician??
5. I tell everyone what I do! You would be surprised how many people know less than you do, which automatically makes you an “expert” compared to them!
