How to find a niche

If you’re not an internet marketer yet, my questions is this: Why not?
Internet marketing is by far the cheapest way to fail! Once you know what to do, you only have around $10 outlay for a domain, between $10 and $30 per month for hosting, and your time!
If you’ve never thought about starting your own business before, then consider it now.
Ok, so you may be thinking you want to try this internet marketing “thing”, but you don’t have a product, nor do you know which niche to target. So where do you start??
Here: Think about a niche that interests you and see if people are buying products in that niche. If they are, then you’ve got a great place to start!

I came across a blog post today that I had to share. It talks about a way to get your name out there by first finding ten people who trust you, respect you or listen to you.
These ten people need what you have to sell or they want it. If they love what you have, then you win. Otherwise, you need a new product!
Check it out here http://sethgodin.typepad.com/seths_blog/2009/04/first-ten-.html

A lesson in Goal Setting

Ok, a website dedicated to web development services, internet coaching and internet marketing is probably not the place you would expect to find an article about goal setting, but today that’s going to change!
Regardless of what you do, if you want to succeed, then you must have a goal!
A good friend of mine has a favourite quote: “If you aim at nothing, then you will have amazing accuracy”.
What this quote is saying is that to get to where you want to be, then you have to know where it is first!
So here’s your job for today:
1. Work out exactly what it is you want from your internet business. You don’t even have to put it in dollar terms. Simply having a goal to generate enough business to allow you to do X, Y & Z (be sure to list them all!), is great - as long as you are specific!
2. How will you know once you have achieved your goal? Be sure to write it in a way that you will know once you are there. So for example, if you work full time and have your internet business on the side, your goal might be to replace your current full time income. You can’t get more specific than that! Maybe you might write a goal to replace your current income on a consistent basis over three months, which will allow you to quit your job!
3. Now, assess whether your goal is appropriate. For example, if you were to have a goal to lose weight, but you have no intention of giving up your 54 pizzas each week, then you probably need to reassess!
4. Is your goal realistic? You might want to replace your income within the next 30 days, but if you’re just starting from scratch today and you currently earn $150,000 per year, then 30 days might be stretching it. It isn’t impossible, however if you set a goal that is well beyond something you can believe you can achieve, then your chances of getting there are low.
5. Time limited. When do you want to achieve your goal by? Set a time limit. Set a time limit that is challenging but realistic. You don’t want it to be too easy, nor do you want it to seem almost impossible to achieve.
So there you have it - a lesson in goal setting!
Make the time tonight to sit down and write down exactly what it is you want and be sure to do this in line with the five tips above!
What’s so good about Wordpress?

I have been using Wordpress for over 2 years now and I absolutely love it!
After working with html editors in the past, I have to say that Wordpress is miles ahead!
Some people say that Wordpress is difficult to use and others say it’s easier to hack.
On the other hand, I’ve heard of people having both Wordpress sites and “normal” sites and their normal sites have been hacked but their Wordpress sites haven’t!
Here’s my take on it:
I think if someone wants to hack your site badly enough, they will, regardless of what you have used to build your website. What you can do is ensure you regularly back up your website (you can get a Wordpress plugin that does this automatically for you), and Hostgator also back your site up every week.
So at worst, you may lose a week’s worth of work if something goes wrong, but it certainly beats losing everything!
Last year I did an internet marketing course overseas and one of my fellow students was a web designer who had been using the usual html editor to build websites for people. He was amazed at how much easier Wordpress was, and now builds sites using Wordpress sites for his clients!
Not only are they easier, but they are quicker to build, they incorporate a blog (a great way to drive traffic) and they look great!
There will be many people out there who think I’m talking rubbish, so the bottom line is this: Go with what you prefer. There’s no right or wrong way to build a website so go with what works for you.
